Palm Beach is not the only American city with a wonderful collection of paseos and courtyards in its downtown. Along State Street in Santa Barbara, CA, you'll find a remarkable network of passageways and public spaces that live behind the buildings facing the street. The spaces range from very active and public to quiet and seemingly private, but all add up to a rich experience that makes walking the city a series of delights and surprises.
